Functional Bath Décor

Every bathroom needs to have the basics – sinks, a tub or shower and a toilet; for most folks the porcelain fixtures that you have are the ones you need to live with but there still a lot of things you can do to make even the most mundane of bathrooms more attractive. There are also some functional upgrades which can make the bathroom safer such as lighted toilet lids and seats or a toilet with a self-closing lid. With some savvy shopping and a little time spent surfing the net there are all sorts of ideas at your fingertips.

If the vanity looks a bit dated and a new one is not in the budget there are still some options – a new set of drawer pulls or updated bath hardware can do wonders. A clean and clutter free vanity is more attractive than one filled with a mess of lotions – use coordinated liquid soap and lotion dispensers to provide a clean and modern look and monitor product consumption at the same time.

Functional Bath Decor

Perhaps the most useful addition to any bathroom is a handheld showerhead; most can be installed without the assistance of a plumber and they are incredibly handy. Use a handheld showerhead to shampoo hair, bathe children, wash pets, water plants or even clean the tub or shower enclosure. Add a shower seat or bench and you can enjoy a relaxing shower massage while seated; it also makes it easier to wash your hair while seated because you don’t need to worry about your balance.

Bath mats and bath rugs should feature anti-skid backing to reduce the potential for slips and falls.
